A new exhibit on display at Rapid City Regional Airport tells the story of the Crazy Horse Memorial through fifteen photographs spanning decades of history, construction, and cultural connection.
Titled “Living Monument: The Story of Crazy Horse Memorial,” the show features a range of images, from early black-and-white construction photos to portraits of contemporary Native community members. It’s located throughout the secure gate area of the airport, where passengers can view the images as they move through the terminal.
“This exhibit gives visitors a glimpse into the story and significance of Crazy Horse Memorial,” said Patrick Dame, Executive Director of Rapid City Regional Airport. “It’s a reflection of the region’s heritage and the airport’s ongoing efforts to honor Native history and culture.”
Located in the Black Hills, Crazy Horse Memorial is the world’s largest mountain carving. The exhibit traces its journey from early days to its place today as a site of cultural significance visited by hundreds of thousands each year.
