Airport Art: Painted Violin Project

Painted Violin Project: Black Hills Edition on Display at Rapid City Regional Airport

Throughout March 2025, Rapid City Regional Airport is proud to host the Painted Violin Project: Black Hills Edition, presented by the Rushmore Music Festival. This beautiful exhibit showcases the work of twelve talented visual artists from the Black Hills, who have transformed donated, unplayable violins into stunning pieces of art.

More than just an art display, this project merges visual and performing arts in a meaningful way. Each violin is a testament to creativity and generosity, supporting scholarships for middle and high school music students nationwide to attend the Rushmore Music Festival—a solo and chamber music program held in Rapid City.

Travelers passing through the airport will have the opportunity to view these extraordinary pieces before they are auctioned in July 2025. The proceeds will directly fund the next generation of musicians, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of exceptional talent.

As a gateway to the Black Hills, Rapid City Regional Airport is proud to highlight the region’s rich artistic and cultural community. We invite passengers and visitors to take a moment to experience the Painted Violin Project and celebrate the power of art and music to inspire and transform lives.
