Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) is displaying original artwork from local students near baggage claim as part of the national commemoration of the United States’ 250th anniversary. The exhibit opened March 6 and runs through December 20, 2026.
The pieces were selected through a competition organized by the Rapid City Youth City Council, which coordinated participation across local schools and received 63 submissions.
Six winners were chosen:
- Elise Surrell, 12th grade
- Adrian Sanchez, 12th grade
- Ella Vallette, 11th grade
- Kayla Giacometto, 11th grade
- Colton Sayles, 11th grade
- Hailee Weaver, 10th grade
The works reflect each student’s interpretation of American history and national character.
“We hope to have more projects that bring youth voice to different city entities,” said Sako Tinant, Community Outreach Co-lead for the Rapid City Youth City Council. “The amount of artwork made to celebrate the 150 years of Rapid City shows how youth can uplift our community.”
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
