Rapid City Regional Airport's “Siouxper Boy” brass sculpture depicts a young boy atop a globe, with a toy airplane in one hand and a Native American bustle in the other. He’s wearing a cowboy hat and looking skyward. The sculpture weighs

1,600 pounds and stands more than 12 feet high

Lanz, a Hot Springs artist, said the sculpture was inspired by his own Lakota son. “The boy in this piece is about 10 to 12 years old, and has never been told he can’t,” explained Lanz. “He bridges the gap between the powwow culture and Western culture. He lives in both worlds. Siouxper Boy – he can do anything, and go anywhere.”
